About TableMusic Piano Trio

TableMusic brings together violinist Mandhira de Saram (leader of the Ligeti quartet), award-winning cellist Natalie Rozario plus versatile, accomplished pianist and scholar, Ruth Herbert. At core a piano trio, the group break new ground with a focus on new, recent and 20th century music displaying a rich mix of influences: contemporary classical, jazz and world, sometimes incorporating improvisation and other instruments (see clips on Photos & Media page).

Formed early in 2017, the trio have already performed original commissions from both established and emerging composers. Performances are designed to take place in a range of venues - from concert halls to bars and galleries. The group are all also highly experienced and imaginative workshop leaders, believing strongly in the importance of education and outreach work.

An album is planned for 2019, including commissioned works by Colin Riley , jazz pianist Tim Richards and outstanding young composers from the Purcell School of Music.

Mandhira’s International solo and chamber music tours have taken her to prestigious venues across the UK and Europe as well as the USA, India, China and her country of origin, Sri Lanka. She ‘s a founding member and leader of the Ligeti Quartet, which has established a reputation as a dynamic leading force in contemporary and modern music. She has also collaborated with sounds artists and musicians beyond the field of classical music, including Wadada Leo Smith, Meilyr Jones, Shabaka Hutchings, Laura Jurd, Kerry Andrew, Sean Noona. Mandhira graduated from the University of Oxford with a high 1st in performance, winning the Worcester College Arts Prize for the highest result in an arts subject.

Natalie has performed all over the world from Sydney Opera House to the Edinburgh Festival, including two years in Copenhagen, playing for Det Ny Teater and the Danish Radio Orchestra and a further two years, touring the world with dancer Akram Khan. She has been principal cello in major West end musicals, played live with artists such as Jamie Cullum and Maximo Park, and appeared on the Jonathan Ross show with Take That. She has worked extensively as a session musician, an improviser and a workshop leader as well as visiting several prisons (with Pimlico Opera!). Natalie moves easily between standard classical repertoire and collaborations with contemporary composers, and between genres of jazz and world music. She graduated from Southampton University with a first in Music and German and went on to further studies in Vienna and at the Royal Academy of Music where she won the Douglas Cameron Prize.

Highly accomplished and versatile pianist Ruth has performed nationally and internationally, both as a soloist and with various ensembles, recording soundtracks for silent films commissioned by the British Film Institute (BFI), subsequently touring these works at major venues in the UK and USA . She’s also a leading music psychologist, whose groundbreaking publications on music listening and musical consciousness are widely cited and has headed performance departments at Dartington College of Arts and the University of Kent. Ruth graduated from Cardiff University with a first class honours degree and an MA wit in performance with distinction and was a Munster Trust postgraduate piano scholar at the Royal Academy of Music, where she won various prizes. She lectured at Oxford University, where she was a British Academy Research Fellow at Jesus College for three years. Ruth has contributed to publications on jazz piano and to stage musicals and has worked extensively with contemporary classical and jazz composers.
